Karl Bohm, the great conductor, certainly one of the most important Wagnerian conductors of all times, said that, in his opinion, Renata Tebaldi was one of the best “Elizabeths” from Tannhauser: “my ideal Elizabeth”, he said. Unfortunately, no complete recording remains to substantiate this statement. We must remember that Ms Tebaldi sang the role of “Elsa” from “Lohengrin a number of times and her reviews said she was “sweet and moving”.
